It’s Day 3 of the 10 Day Blog Challenge, and today’s focus is… describing your perfect day!  Now, when I’ve used this exercise with people in the past, their knee-jerk reaction is often something like, “I’d sit on my backside watching Netflix and eating Ben & Jerry’s.”  (Other subscription movie and series streaming services are available.  Though I’m not sure if there’s any frozen dessert that comes close to Ben & Jerry’s, or so I’ve heard.)

Now the tables have turned, and guess what my knee-jerk reaction was?!  (Well, I’m dairy intolerant, so being able to eat Ben & Jerry’s is a pretty lofty dream.)  What provoked this response was resistance, and behind that resistance was a fear of not fulfilling this.  But the brain doesn’t really know that the images we create when we visualise aren’t ‘real’, so when doing this exercise properly we’re creating a similar reaction in the body to when you’ve realised your goal.  The more inspired and motivated you feel, the more closely it resonates with what you really want out of life!  And the more it does that, the more inspired you are to take action.

Perfect day at the beach

Here goes, an excerpt from my perfect day:

“My perfect day starts with waking up to hearing the birds singing in the nearby woodland.  I take my dog out and as we make our way down the hill I can hear the motion of the sea.  I let my dog off lead and we run around, playing on the sandy beach.  She howls with delight and I breathe in the salty air happily, then we make our way back home for breakfast.

I sit in the garden by the fountain to meditate and write in my journal for half an hour.  Then I prepare for my VIP client follow-up session to review the fantastic results she got in her VIP Day intensive.

I’m so excited about the progress she’s made, as we chat on Skype.  I can visibly see the change in her body language as she tells me about a situation she dealt with confidently as a result of our day together.  As our session comes to a close she mentions a friend she has recommended my coaching to and gives me her details to follow up with.  I’m delighted that she got so much value out of our time together and we enthusiastically discuss the ways we can work together further.

It’s now 11am so I take the opportunity before lunch to do Pilates.  I stretch deeply and feel reinvigorated yet calm.  I meet a couple of friends for lunch in our regular haunt, a small but chic bistro.

As I open the door the aroma of coffee greets me.  I sit with my friends laughing and chatting as we eat the delicious seafood we ordered.  The delicate taste of my salmon and dill dish gives me a contented feeling of nourishment.

After our long lunch we say our goodbyes.  It’s 1.30pm so I head back home to complete some content creation for my growing membership site.  I love how it’s coming together!  I send the new content to my virtual assistant and finish work for the day.  It’s 4.00pm…”

As you can see from my excerpt, I’ve written in the present tense.  This is important because your mind connects with it as actually happening, which fires off the right sparks in the body.  (Technical terms, sorry. :P)   I’ve also made use of as many of the senses as possible (taste, sound, smell..).  This is to reinforce what I’m visualising and so  my attention is really drawn to how great it is to have it!  My example also shows what I really want to do with my life because the exercise describes your perfect day, giving us permission to cut out the crap of things we think we ought to do.

Now it’s your turn.  What would your perfect day be?  Let me know in the comments below how you go!

[You can describe beyond 4pm to when you go to bed.  My post would have been even longer if I’d included that!]
